According to a report from the BBC, West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes is not expected to be among the players returning for pre-season training next Monday.

The future of the young Portuguese star is likely to become clearer in the coming days, with a formal offer anticipated from interested clubs.

Both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly pursuing Fernandes, and the 21-year-old has not expressed any particular preference as he looks set to depart from the London Stadium outfit.

Sources indicate that Fernandes is open to joining either club, with his agent Jorge Mendes currently in discussions with both sides.

West Ham are understood to value the midfielder at £80 million, and Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be willing to meet that asking price.

It remains uncertain whether an agreement will be finalised before the end of the week, as no official negotiations have been concluded so far.

Fernandes is not the only player expected to leave West Ham this summer. Callum Wilson is reportedly in talks regarding a potential move to Brentford.

The English striker’s contract expires today, making him a free agent and eligible to sign with any club beginning next month.

West Ham are set to commence preparations for life in the Championship next Monday, with players who did not feature in the World Cup expected to report back to training.

Others are scheduled to return later, while those seeking moves away will hope to resolve their futures swiftly.

Club captain Jarrod Bowen is also expected to report to Rush Green, and it is understood that the management are eager for him to remain and lead their promotion campaign next season.

However, recent reports have suggested live on air that Bowen could be on his way to Aston Villa this summer.

Significant departures appear imminent, and the Hammers must manage the upcoming transfer window effectively if they hope to secure a swift return to the Premier League.
