Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes draws serious Champions League transfer interest: Report

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has once again become the subject of significant transfer interest from overseas clubs for the second consecutive transfer window.

In January, Fernandes was strongly linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League but ultimately chose to remain at Old Trafford. The decision paid off, as he went on to enjoy his best season yet in a Manchester United shirt, earning both the Premier League Player of the Year and the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year Awards.

More crucially, Fernandes played a key role in guiding United back into the UEFA Champions League after two disappointing campaigns away from Europe’s top-tier competition.

According to media reports from Türkiye, 31-year-old Fernandes is now attracting interest from Turkish champions Galatasaray, who, like United, will feature in next season’s Champions League. However, reports suggest that Fernandes has no desire to leave Manchester this summer.

Turkish outlet TRT Spor reported, “Galatasaray wants to strengthen the attacking midfield (number 10) position during the summer transfer window. The biggest challenge in securing the transfer is the 31-year-old player’s reluctance to depart from Manchester United.”

The report further added, “Fernandes wishes to remain as captain of the English side, which will compete in the Champions League next season. For this reason, the experienced midfielder rejected astronomical offers from Saudi Arabian clubs, just as he did during the January window.”

Fernandes’ stance, combined with Manchester United’s unwillingness to part ways with their captain, is balanced by the player’s age and contract situation. His current deal at Old Trafford runs for another two years.

If United intend to secure a transfer fee for Fernandes, they may need to make a decision either this summer or the next, given the growing interest from clubs eager to sign the Portuguese star for the final stretch of his career.

Alternatively, if Fernandes stays until the end of his contract, he would be able to leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2028, when he will be 33 years old, potentially opening up more options for his next move.

For now, Fernandes remains fully focused on his commitments with Portugal at the World Cup and on Manchester United’s upcoming Premier League and Champions League campaigns.

TRT also noted, “Despite all these circumstances, it has been revealed that Galatasaray’s transfer officials still plan to hold discussions with both Manchester United and Bruno Fernandes.”
