The Central Government has opened a box of happiness for the labor brothers and sisters living in rural areas across the country. The Ministry of Rural Development has prepared to provide a very wonderful and big relief to the laborers of rural areas. The government has officially announced brand new wage rates under the ‘Develop India – Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) Act, 2025’.
These new rates increased by the government are going to be implemented in the entire country from today i.e. July 1, 2026. The Central Government claims that this historic change will not only lead to a major improvement in the daily income of rural labourers, but will also make the entire employment system in rural areas stronger and more transparent than before. Under this new system, for the first time, the government has fixed the minimum base wage of Rs 300 per day in the Rural Employment Scheme, that is, now workers will not be given less wages than this in any corner of the country. The government has called it a huge and revolutionary step towards the economic security of workers and respect for their labour.
Now not just 100, there is a sure guarantee of getting work for 125 days.
The biggest and most relieving change that has been made in this new government scheme is the number of working days. Till now, rural families were given employment guarantee of only 100 days in a year, but now the government has directly increased it to 125 days. This simply means that the labor families living in villages will now have a guaranteed opportunity of getting 25 more days of work in a year than before, which will significantly improve their economic condition and they will not have to face financial crunch.
Huge increase in wages by 15 to 25 percent
After the implementation of new wage rates, there is going to be a huge increase in the daily earnings of rural laborers living in different states of the country. According to the information received from the government, in many states there has been a huge increase in wage rates ranging from 15 percent to 25 percent. After this increase, the average daily wage in the country has now increased to more than Rs 327, whereas by law the minimum wage has been fixed at Rs 300 per day for any situation.
Money will be received on time and if there is delay in payment, heavy compensation will be given.
Rural laborers often had a major complaint that even after working, they did not get their wages on time. In this new system, the government has implemented very strict and new provisions to protect the workers from this delay in payment. Now, after the completion of the work, arrangements have been made to ensure payment of wages to the workers directly into their accounts within a maximum of 15 days. The government has clearly said that if there is a delay in payment due to any reason within the stipulated time i.e. 15 days, then the concerned department will have to pay separate compensation to the workers at the rate of 0.05 percent per day.
If you do not get employment after asking for work, the government will give you unemployment allowance sitting at home.
The government has made a big announcement by making this Employment Guarantee Act more strong and accountable at the grassroots level. According to the new rules, if a registered laborer applies for work and is not given any work by the government within the next 15 days of applying, then in such a situation that laborer will have full legal right to get unemployment allowance sitting at home. Due to this strictness of the government, now officials will not be able to postpone the work of laborers and it is expected that there will be a huge reduction in migration from villages to cities.
