Barcelona have officially ruled out the possibility of signing Bayern Munich star Harry Kane as they intensify their hunt for a new centre-forward. Despite initial discussions, the Catalan club has decided to redirect their attention to alternative targets to fill the gap left by a major departure at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Barcelona turn attention to Julian Alvarez

The club’s top priority in the ongoing transfer window is to recruit a proven goal scorer following the exit of Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker, who consistently delivered around 30 goals each season, has left a considerable void in the team’s attacking setup. Sporting director Deco is keen to address this issue swiftly. Although Kane was briefly considered, Barcelona have now made Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez their main target.

However, securing the Argentine forward will not be straightforward, with Atletico Madrid reportedly reluctant to sell a key player to a direct domestic rival.

According to a report from Marca, Deco is preparing one last push to strike a deal. The club’s hierarchy believes that once the World Cup concludes, the Rojiblancos might soften their stance and open negotiations for the 26-year-old, who is said to be eager for a move to further his professional growth.

Kane prioritises Bayern stability over La Liga switch

The speculation over Kane’s potential move to Spain has been firmly dismissed, both by Barcelona’s management and the player himself. The England captain has made it clear that he is content with life in Germany and has no plans to leave the Allianz Arena. This commitment has convinced Barcelona that pursuing the 32-year-old would be a wasted effort.

Additionally, Bayern Munich have no interest in parting ways with their star striker. Unlike the situation four years ago when Lewandowski pushed for a transfer to Catalonia, Kane has no intention of engaging in any public dispute with the German club. Instead, the prolific forward is expected to begin discussions over a contract extension, following a phenomenal 2025–26 season in which he scored an incredible 61 goals across all competitions.

Barcelona consider in-house options as backup plan

If their efforts to sign Alvarez do not succeed, Barcelona are prepared to rely on internal options rather than spending heavily on another external target. The coaching team believes that goal contributions can be distributed among their current attacking players, several of whom can operate effectively as a false nine or central forward. This approach reflects the club’s intent to remain financially prudent and avoid panic decisions in the market.

Players such as Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres, and Lamine Yamal have been identified as possible internal solutions. By positioning these versatile attackers in more central roles, the club hopes to retain its offensive flexibility without depending on a traditional number nine.

World Cup form strengthens Kane’s standing

Kane’s decision to stay at Bayern comes at a time when his reputation has reached new heights. His performances for Thomas Tuchel’s England side at the World Cup have been outstanding, reinforcing Bayern’s determination to keep him. Having already surpassed 80 international goals, Kane remains one of the most clinical finishers in world football—a quality that initially drew strong interest from Barcelona.

In the end, Kane’s commitment to Bayern Munich, combined with Barcelona’s preference for a younger striker like Alvarez, has brought this transfer story to a definitive close.
