Group A winners Mexico face off against Group E’s third-placed side Ecuador in Mexico City tonight in what promises to be a fascinating contest.

Mexico, nicknamed El Tri, will benefit from home advantage, though Ecuador have shown they can be a tough opponent — as Germany discovered in their final group encounter. The hosts will need to stay sharp and avoid any signs of complacency.

The match will be aired live on ITV. Here’s a look at the commentary and pundit team covering the game.

Laura Woods will anchor the coverage from ITV’s studio in New York City. She will be joined by expert panellists Jobi McAnuff and Ange Postecoglou, while Gabriel Clarke will report live from Mexico City, providing updates and insights from pitchside.

The broadcast team will have some time to fill before the action begins, as the match has been delayed. Kick-off is now scheduled for 3am BST (8pm local time).

Raul Jimenez, a veteran forward for the Mexican national team, is expected to play a key role for the hosts as they seek to progress further in the tournament.

Joe Speight will take on the role of lead commentator for the match, with Lucy Ward providing analysis and colour commentary alongside him in the commentary box.

Mexico topped Group A after going unbeaten in their matches against South Africa, South Korea, and Czechia. The co-hosts have ambitions of reaching the latter stages of the competition, having previously made it to the quarter-finals in both 1970 and 1986 — each time when the tournament was held on home soil.

Ecuador, on the other hand, looked set for elimination before a dramatic 2-1 victory over Germany in their final group fixture secured their place in the knockout rounds. The South Americans were among the most impressive teams during the CONMEBOL qualifiers, but the challenging altitude of Mexico City could make this tie unpredictable.
