Indonesia AirAsia suspended its direct Jakarta-Singapore service on Wednesday to focus on stronger-performing routes as rising fuel costs put pressure on operations.
Flights on the route still operated on Tuesday but no longer appear in the flight status section of AirAsia’s website going forward, Channel News Asia reported.
Direct AirAsia flights between Singapore and Jakarta are also no longer available for booking on the airline’s website, with only services transiting via Kuala Lumpur currently offered.
AirAsia customers had reported that their direct flights between Singapore and Jakarta had been rerouted via the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.

Bo Lingam, CEO of AirAsia X – also known as the AirAsia Group, said the move would allow AirAsia to optimize its network by reallocating its capacity to stronger-performing routes, as higher jet fuel prices brought on by the Middle East conflict had driven the low-cost carrier to suspend some flights, according to Channel News Asia.
AirAsia has also cited high fees at Changi Airport, with airport taxes exceeding the average base fare, as the reason for cutting its Singapore-Jakarta flights, Travel Weekly Asia reported.
The suspension of the Jakarta route is the latest indication of Indonesia AirAsia’s shrinking network in Singapore and across the region, The Straits Times reported.
According to AirAsia’s website, its Indonesian subsidiary has suspended 36 domestic and international routes.
