Frank Lampard has put an end to all speculation about his departure by signing a new contract with Coventry City, ensuring he remains at the helm until 2029. The former Chelsea and Everton manager, who led the Sky Blues to the Championship title and a long-awaited return to the Premier League, has officially confirmed his commitment ahead of the club’s first top-flight season in 25 years.
Reward for Championship success
Coventry City have confirmed that head coach Frank Lampard has penned a new deal extending his stay until 2029. The club announced that the contract renewal is a reward for an outstanding tenure since his arrival in November 2024. Under Lampard’s guidance, Coventry captured the Championship crown, securing promotion to the Premier League for the first time since the late 1990s. His record of 45 wins in 82 matches highlights an impressive turnaround following earlier managerial challenges.
During his initial spell as Chelsea manager, Lampard managed 44 victories, 15 draws, and 25 defeats in 84 games. His brief second stint produced one win, two draws, and eight losses from 11 matches, while his time at Everton saw him register 12 wins, eight draws, and 24 defeats in 44 fixtures.
Lampard shares his thoughts
Speaking after the announcement, Lampard expressed his gratitude and ambition for the future. He said, “I’m delighted to have signed a new contract. It’s a real honour to represent this club.”
He added, “After everyone’s remarkable effort to get promoted and win the Championship, it was important to enjoy that special moment, which we did as a city. Now, for the staff and players, it’s about recharging and refocusing on what we aim to achieve next season. There’s a lot of work to be done both on and off the pitch, and those preparations are already underway.”
Club owner celebrates renewal
The contract extension has brought great satisfaction to Coventry’s leadership, with owner and executive chairman Doug King commending Lampard’s impact. King said, “I am absolutely delighted that Frank and his team have signed the contract. Since he joined in November 2024, the club has been on a tremendous upward path under his management. After last season’s Championship triumph, it’s only right that he leads us into our first Premier League season in a generation.”
Lampard also took the opportunity to express his appreciation, saying, “Thank you to Doug King for giving me the chance to join this football club and for his continued support. We work closely together, and we know there’s plenty more to do — but we’re fully committed to giving it our all.”
What lies ahead for the Sky Blues?
With his future secured, Lampard’s attention now turns to shaping his squad for the challenges of the Premier League. The club’s focus will be on strengthening the team during the transfer window and ensuring a productive pre-season. Supporters are eagerly awaiting the fixture list, hopeful that Coventry can not only survive but also make a strong impression in their return to the top tier.
