Material

Flour-2 cups
Curd-2 tbsp
Sugar-1 tsp
Baking powder-½ tsp
Baking soda-¼ tsp
Oil or Ghee – 1 tbsp
salt-as per taste
lukewarm water
butter for topping
finely chopped coriander and nigella seeds

correct way to knead dough

In a large vessel, add flour, salt, sugar, baking powder and baking soda and mix well. Now add curd and oil in it. After this, knead a soft dough with the help of lukewarm water. The biggest secret to making Naan soft is that the dough should neither be too hard nor too loose. After the dough is ready, cover it with a little oil and keep it aside for at least 1 to 2 hours. If there is time then a rest of 3 to 4 hours is even better. Due to this the dough swells well and the naan becomes softer.

Make restaurant like naan on tawa (griddle)

Make a ball of dough and roll it gently into an oval or round shape. If you want, apply nigella seeds and green coriander on top and press it lightly with a rolling pin. Now apply a little water on one side of the naan and stick the watery surface on the hot pan. Within a few seconds, big bubbles will start forming on the naan. After this, turn the pan upside down and keep it on direct flame, so that the naan gets cooked well from the top also. This trick helps in giving tandoori flavor to naan. When the naan is completely cooked, take it out from the pan and immediately apply butter on top. If you wish, you can also sprinkle some chaat masala or finely chopped coriander.

Follow these tips for perfect butter naan

If you want to make the naan softer, you can add a little milk to the flour. Always use a pan with a thick bottom, so that the naan cooks evenly. Iron pan is considered better than non-stick pan, because naan sticks to it easily by applying water.

What to serve with?

The taste of hot butter naan gets enhanced with Shahi Paneer, Kadhai Paneer, Dal Makhani, Palak Paneer, Chicken Curry, Mutton Masala or any gravy based vegetable. Applying butter on top and serving it with fresh green chutney or salad makes it taste exactly like a restaurant.
