Renowned Pakistani singer and songwriter Sajjad Ali has issued a clarification regarding the copyright of his popular song “Ravi” after its performance on an Indian television reality show sparked widespread discussion on social media.

In a video message shared on Instagram, the veteran artist addressed reports and speculation surrounding the performance of his song on Voice of Punjab Master Champs Season 10, an Indian Punjabi singing competition. The controversy arose after two young contestants performed “Ravi” on the show, leading to confusion among fans about whether the singer had granted permission for the song to be used.

At the beginning of his video, Sajjad Ali expressed heartfelt gratitude to his fans around the world for their continued love and support. He thanked everyone who listens to his music and especially appreciated those who create cover versions of his songs. The singer said he enjoys watching such performances whenever they are brought to his attention and often shares his appreciation or feedback with the performers.

However, he explained that recent developments had compelled him to issue a public clarification. According to Sajjad Ali, he recently came across a video on social media showing two children performing his hit song “Ravi” on an Indian Punjabi television program. Following the broadcast, several discussions emerged in Pakistan, with some people claiming that the singer had allowed an Indian television channel to use his song while previously refusing permission for children to perform his music on Pakistan Idol.

Rejecting these claims, Sajjad Ali categorically stated that he has not granted any Indian television channel permission to use his songs, nor has he authorized anyone to use the copyright of his musical works. He emphasized that the song was aired without his knowledge or consent.

“I have not given the copyright of my songs to any Indian TV channel,” he said. “They are using our song without permission. They neither contacted us nor sought our approval before broadcasting it.”

The singer further revealed that his legal team will now take up the matter with the concerned television channel. According to him, the unauthorized use of his work is a copyright issue that will be addressed through appropriate legal channels.

Sajjad Ali also revisited the controversy involving Pakistan Idol, saying that his position had been misrepresented for nearly a year. He expressed disappointment that his previous comments had been taken out of context and presented in a misleading manner, creating a false impression among the public.

The singer stressed that he has always appreciated fans who sing and perform his songs as tribute or cover versions. However, he drew a clear distinction between individual fan performances and the commercial broadcast of copyrighted material by television networks without obtaining the necessary authorization.

His statement aims to remove any misunderstanding regarding his stance on copyright and the use of his music. Sajjad Ali reiterated that while he values the affection shown by fans and young performers, professional broadcasters and television channels must respect copyright laws and seek proper permission before using an artist’s work.

The clarification has generated significant attention on social media, with many fans supporting the singer’s position and emphasizing the importance of protecting intellectual property rights.
