The United States advanced to the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 in their knockout-stage match on July 1. The match was played at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, with Brazilian referee Rafael Claus officiating.
Forward Folarin Balogun gave the United States the lead just before halftime, scoring in the 45th minute. However, his night ended early after he was shown a red card midway through the second half for a serious foul.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, the Americans doubled their advantage in the 80th minute when midfielder Malik Tillman curled a direct free kick into the net to seal the victory.
The United States also had two additional goals ruled out for offside during the match—one from Balogun and another from captain Christian Pulisic. With the win, the United States progressed to the Round of 16, where they will face Belgium on July 7.
