Delhi weather is expected to turn significantly wetter in the coming days as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts widespread rainfall activity across northwestern India. The national capital region, along with Haryana and Punjab, is likely to witness an active spell of monsoon conditions from July 2 onwards, with heavy rainfall expected at isolated places through much of the week. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching up to 40–50 kmph are also likely to accompany rainfall activity, raising concerns over waterlogging, traffic disruptions and longer commute times across the city.

According to IMD's latest All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin, conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to advance further into more areas of northwestern India, bringing widespread rain activity to several regions that have been waiting for stronger monsoon coverage.

For Delhi residents, the forecast indicates a shift from scattered rainfall to more widespread rain events between July 2 and July 7. Heavy rainfall is likely over Haryana–Chandigarh–Delhi during this period, with thunderstorm activity expected to continue alongside gusty winds. The weather system may provide relief from heat conditions, but could also create urban challenges including water accumulation on roads, slower traffic movement and temporary disruptions in low-lying areas.

The monsoon progression itself has made considerable gains. The Southwest Monsoon has advanced further into parts of the North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. It has also covered remaining parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh while spreading across the entire Jammu and Kashmir region and parts of Haryana and Punjab.


Across India, several regions are expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall episodes over the next seven days.

Western India is likely to remain among the most affected regions. Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra are expected to receive sustained heavy rainfall activity. Extremely heavy rainfall has been forecast at isolated locations over Gujarat and Konkan–Goa during multiple days of the forecast period. Madhya Maharashtra is also expected to witness very intense rainfall spells.

Coastal Karnataka has emerged as another major concern area. Heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall events are expected over several days, raising the possibility of local flooding and waterlogging.

Central India is also likely to remain under intense monsoon influence. Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha are forecast to receive widespread rainfall. West Madhya Pradesh is expected to witness particularly intense conditions, with extremely heavy rainfall forecast on July 3 and July 4.

Eastern states including Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and parts of West Bengal are also expected to remain under active rain conditions. Odisha is forecast to experience widespread rainfall through the week, while Gangetic West Bengal could see very heavy rainfall on multiple days.

In the Himalayan region, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir are expected to witness widespread rain activity. Heavy rainfall warnings remain in place for several days, increasing the risk of landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas.

The northeastern states are likely to continue receiving regular rainfall, although some regions may simultaneously experience hot and humid conditions. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are expected to remain under scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity.

Authorities are also closely monitoring flash flood risks in some regions. IMD has highlighted moderate flash flood risks over parts of Coastal Karnataka, Goa, Mumbai and adjoining districts. Parts of Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha are also under similar warnings.

Fishermen have been advised against venturing into several parts of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal because of squally weather conditions and strong winds. Wind speeds over some marine areas may reach 45–55 kmph with stronger gusts.

For travellers and commuters, authorities are advising caution. People are being urged to monitor weather updates before planning journeys, especially in areas expecting heavy rainfall. Checking traffic conditions before departure and avoiding flood-prone routes may become increasingly important as the monsoon strengthens further.
