Actor Mayim
Bialik has highlighted the adverse side effects of GLP-1, after she had tried it with a doctor’s suggestion.
The actor described her experiences of severe diarrhoea and full-body aches, referring to them as “nightmares” which continued for weeks.
Emmy Award-winning actor Mayim Balik who has starred in projects like “Blossoms”, “Big Bang theory” reflected her grief over her experience with GLP-1 medication.
Aafter one low dose injection of the GLP-1 medication, Bialik said she began to experience gastrointestinal symptoms that left her unwell for weeks, she wrote in FreePress. Bialik has written experiencing “explosive, uncontrollable diarrhea. Sulfur burps so violent, they left me afraid to open my mouth in public. Sneezing attacks every time I tried to eat or drink—which apparently has a name: snatiation.”
“Cramping. Bloating. Full-body aching, as though I had the flu. And an inability to keep down even small sips of water without sprinting to the bathroom with yet more explosive diarrhea. More than three times, I didn’t make it,” she added.
She visited a gastroenterologist to discuss her symptoms where it was revealed that she had been suffering the side effects of the GLP-1 drug.
Here are the lesser known serious side effects of GLP-1 medicationsAccording to the Harvard Health Publishing, the drug might be handy in several cases but is also harmful.
One of the side effects is " Ozempic face ," where skin on the face sags and wrinkles. "Ozempic face" was coined in reference to one of these drugs, although any rapid weight loss can cause it.
Cleveland Clinic states that this drug has a number of side effects. They include: loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
These side effects are more likely to happen when you start the medication or if you’re taking an increased dose.
Other side effects can include dizziness.
Mild tachycardia (increased heart rate) and infections, along with headaches. Sometimes it exhibits indigestion (upset stomach). You may also have temporary mild itchiness and/or redness on your skin at the site of the injections.
It can also cause pancreatitis or pancreas inflammation. It can be acute and chronic as well. Medullary thyroid cancer is another serious implication of the unaware use of the drug where MTC forms in the inside of your thyroid gland, which is called the medulla.
Bialik said that although her GLP-1 experience was a “nightmare,” it shouldn’t overshadow the widespread success that millions of people have had with this class of drugs.
“GLP-1s have helped people in serious need,” Bialik said. “Of that I am certain. But nobody talks much about what happens when it goes wrong.”
Using any drug without doctors' shouldn't be encouraged in any given situation.
