The opposition parties of the country have once again expressed strong protest on the issue of SIR. After the crushing defeat in the last assembly elections, the parties of the India Bloc are attacking the Election Commission. Taking the protest forward, they have now appealed to the Chief Justice of India to stop the SIR process.
24 opposition parties have signed a letter to Chief Justice Surya Kant on a letter head written ‘Parliament of India’ along with the names of Congress Chairman, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. The letter jointly states that when institutional arrangements fail, democracy turns into anarchy and when the judiciary fails, it signals the complete breakdown of the republic.
Opposition parties urged that the process of special intensive review (SIR) be stopped and initiated at a time when the next assembly elections are at least five years away. He raised the issue of alleged misuse of central agencies. He said, where necessary, resumption of ballot papers should be seriously considered, and in the letter also accused the Election Commission of adopting a biased attitude.

Signatures of MPs of 24 opposition parties in the letter written to CJI
While sharing this letter to the CJI, KC Venugopal wrote – The biggest threat to electoral democracy in our country is from the Modi-Shah government. On June 28, 24 opposition parties and one independent MP wrote to the Chief Justice of India about the flawed SIR process, the biased role of the Election Commission of India and other issues to the election.
Opposition reminded the judiciary of its responsibility through a letter
He wrote, the job of our judiciary is to protect our democracy from the arbitrariness of the government (executive), especially from a government that is bent on destroying the constitutional structure that has given us democracy. In our democracy, the Supreme Court has an important responsibility to ensure that injustice is not done. Therefore, it has an important role to play in protecting the free and fair nature of elections and ensuring that they appear free and fair. Without it, 1.4 billion voters will continue to be treated unfairly every day.
Writing a letter to CJI is an unsuccessful attempt to attack democracy.
BJP has condemned the letter written by the opposition parties to the CJI, BJP’s Rajya Sabha member and national spokesperson Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi said, BJP strongly condemns the letter written by a few political parties to the Chief Justice of India and the unsuccessful attempt to attack democracy. SIR has been declared completely reasonable and legal by various courts. This has been done from time to time in the past also by the Government of India and the Election Commission. From the constitutional point of view, the opposition parties failed even once to present any factual issue before the court, and the dream of capturing power in the states on the basis of doubtful voters now seems to be shattered.
Congress is insulting democracy for inaction and incompetence
Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi said- I want to ask the Congress Party whether Rahul Gandhi has held workers’ conferences even 1/10 of the times he has traveled abroad in the last 10-12 years? How many days did you stay in Bengal, how many days in Assam, how many days in Kerala? They go abroad during elections, which means they do not work honestly and humiliate their workers. The Congress Party is busy humiliating democracy for its laziness, inaction and incompetence.
