Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has delivered a strong defence of his managerial reputation after facing intense criticism over his team’s tactical approach at the World Cup. The experienced Italian dismissed external opinions, stressing that only former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has the authority to offer him genuine advice.

Ancelotti dismisses public criticism

The veteran coach came under fire even after leading the five-time world champions to a 2-1 comeback win over Japan in Houston. Second-half goals from Casemiro and Gabriel Martinelli ensured Brazil’s progression, yet supporters and pundits alike described the performance as overly conservative.

Known for his calm demeanour, Ancelotti appeared visibly agitated when asked about his ability to manage the squad effectively ahead of the next knockout round. Citing his extensive experience, he firmly pushed back against the growing doubts surrounding his leadership.

Italian manager defends his record

Responding to the mounting pressure, the Brazil boss highlighted that his decades-long career in top-level European football speaks for itself and shields him from outside judgement.

Ancelotti remarked: “In Italy, they say that all men want to be coaches and all women architects. I don’t know if I truly understand football or not, but no one can question me on this. The only thing that’s certain is that I’ve managed over 1,400 matches. That may not be enough to fully grasp football, but it’s definitely a lot of experience.”

He continued: “Only one man has managed more matches than me – Alex Ferguson, with over 2,000. I listen to everyone, but the only person who can truly give me advice is Alex Ferguson. I’m one hundred per cent sure I’m not a genius, but I’m also one hundred per cent sure I’m not a fool.”

Endrick praises his coach

Despite frustrations among fans about the team’s rigid attacking style, the dressing room remains fully behind Ancelotti. Young striker Endrick voiced his admiration, calling the coach’s intuition and leadership extraordinary.

Endrick said: “I don’t think there could have been a better person to lead us. He’s fearless. He does what he believes is right, and somehow everything falls into place. It feels like God is guiding him because whatever Carlo does just works. When he asks me to do something, I don’t hesitate—I just do it.”

Round of 16 challenge awaits

Brazil now head to New York to take on Norway on Sunday in their round-of-16 clash. The Norwegian side’s disciplined defensive setup is expected to test Brazil’s creativity, and the Selecao will need to show far more attacking fluidity to avoid an early exit. With pressure mounting and expectations high, Ancelotti must deliver a convincing display to validate his tactical selections and keep momentum going into the quarter-finals.
