Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of completing the signing of Ederson, although the midfielder still needs to undergo the second phase of his medical examination before the deal can be officially confirmed.
According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs have had an agreement in place for nearly a month, with all necessary paperwork completed and awaiting final approval.
Earlier reports from BBC Sport suggested that Manchester United had reached a £35 million agreement with Atalanta for Ederson. Romano, responding to fans’ queries about the delay, explained the situation in detail in his latest update on his YouTube channel.
“Many people are asking why Manchester United haven’t made the Ederson deal official yet. The reason is that, although there is already a verbal agreement between Manchester United and Atalanta for about a month now, they are waiting for Ederson to complete the second part of his medical in England before finalising everything,” Romano explained.
He further added, “So, there is a verbal agreement, documents between the clubs are ready, and the first part of the medical has been done. However, the second part of the medical, which is the official one with Manchester United, is still pending. That’s why the announcement hasn’t been made yet, and we have to wait for those final steps.”
Fans of the Red Devils will be hoping that there are no last-minute issues that could derail the move. While such complications seem unlikely, football transfers often remain unpredictable until the official confirmation arrives.
Ederson is expected to be one of several midfield reinforcements this summer, as Manchester United continue to be linked with other high-profile targets in the transfer market.
According to Sky Sports, the club is also monitoring Aurelien Tchouameni and Alex Scott as potential signings, both of whom could join Ederson in strengthening United’s midfield options at Old Trafford.
Ederson is widely viewed as a potential replacement for Casemiro, who is likely to depart the club, while United may also look to bring in a more dynamic option to upgrade on Manuel Ugarte.
