India made the perfect start with the ball as Arshdeep Singh struck twice in the opening over. He removed Phil Salt off the very first delivery, with Ishan Kishan taking the catch behind the stumps, before dismissing Jos Buttler for a duck after Varun Chakaravarthy completed a sharp catch at midwicket.
England were reduced to 1/2 inside five balls, putting India firmly in control early in the chase.
England captain Harry Brook responded with an aggressive counterattack, smashing 39 runs off just 15 balls. He hammered Arshdeep Singh for multiple boundaries and sixes, shifting the momentum in England's favour.
Brook also survived a major scare when Axar Patel nearly completed a stunning catch near the boundary. Although Axar caught the ball, he lost balance before stepping over the ropes and attempted to throw it back into play. The ball eventually landed on the boundary cushions, resulting in six runs instead of a wicket.
Brook and Bethell then added 50 runs in only 23 deliveries, putting England back on track.
India fought back when Axar Patel dismissed Brook after a successful review confirmed an edge through to Ishan Kishan.
However, Jacob Bethell remained composed and rebuilt the innings alongside Tom Banton, who contributed 39 off 32 balls. Their 67-run partnership for the fourth wicket proved crucial in England's chase.
Arshdeep later removed Banton, while Varun Chakaravarthy trapped Will Jacks lbw to briefly revive India's hopes.
The decisive moment came in the 17th over, when Bethell dominated Ravi Bishnoi. After two no-balls handed England consecutive free hits, Bethell smashed four sixes and a four, collecting 27 runs in the over to bring up his half-century and virtually seal the match.
He later added another spectacular reverse-scooped six off Harshit Rana, maintaining complete control of the chase.
Although Harshit dismissed Sam Curran, Jofra Archer finished the game with a boundary as England reached 191/6 in 19 overs.
Bethell remained unbeaten on 76 off 46 balls, striking five fours and five sixes in a match-winning knock.
For India, Arshdeep Singh returned figures of 3/40, while Axar Patel impressed with 1/20 in four overs. Varun Chakaravarthy and Harshit Rana claimed one wicket each, but Ravi Bishnoi endured a difficult outing, conceding 60 runs in his four overs.
Earlier, after electing to bat, India made a flying start, reaching 65/2 in the Powerplay.
Abhishek Sharma scored a quick 43 off 24 balls, hitting eight fours and a six, while teenage opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi chipped in with 14 off 10 balls, including two sixes.
Ishan Kishan anchored the innings with 49 off 40 deliveries, while captain Shreyas Iyer added a brisk 37 off 22 balls. The pair shared a valuable 65-run partnership for the third wicket.
England staged a strong comeback during the middle and death overs. Sam Curran claimed three wickets, dismissing Shivam Dube and Kishan, while Liam Dawson removed Iyer. India also lost Axar Patel to a run-out and Harshit Rana off the final ball of the innings.
Tilak Varma provided the late flourish with an unbeaten 24 off 11 balls, striking two sixes and a four in the final over against Jofra Archer to help India finish on 190/7.
England's bowlers recovered well after India's explosive start, with Sam Curran leading the attack with 3/33, while Archer, Dawson, and Will Jacks picked up one wicket each.
