Manchester United are actively searching for a new attacker this summer, as INEOS aims to build upon the club’s progress from last season. Determined to boost their attacking options, the Old Trafford hierarchy sanctioned significant deals for Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko – an effort to create a formidable forward trio.
The results were evident as United improved from being the 15th lowest scorers in the 2024/25 Premier League season to ranking third last term, finishing just two goals shy of champions Arsenal. Yet, the Red Devils are not satisfied and have plans to add another winger and a more consistent striker to complement Joshua Zirkzee.
One name that has resurfaced on United’s radar is Bournemouth’s young winger, Rayan. The 19-year-old Brazilian international, currently representing his country at the World Cup, was also a target for the Red Devils during the January transfer window.
Rayan made a name for himself as one of South America’s brightest prospects while at Vasco da Gama, scoring 20 goals across all competitions in the previous season. He also played a crucial role in helping Brazil capture the South American U-20 Championship title in February 2025.
Standing at 6’1, Rayan combines explosive pace and power, attributes that have earned him the tag of the “great revelation” of Brazilian football. Some have even drawn comparisons with his compatriot Adriano, famously known as ‘L’Imperatore’.
Manchester United were not alone in their admiration for the youngster, as top European sides such as Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan, and Real Madrid also monitored his progress. However, Bournemouth acted swiftly, showing the strongest intent to secure his services after losing Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City in the same window.
Interest from Old Trafford has not diminished since; in fact, Rayan’s impressive adjustment to English football has only strengthened United’s desire to bring him to Manchester.
According to ESPN, Bournemouth sealed a £24.7 million deal, with an additional £5.6 million in potential bonuses, to sign Rayan. He inherited Semenyo’s No.37 shirt and wasted no time making an impression.
Rayan had a dream start at the Vitality Stadium, providing an assist on his debut in a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. He then scored in consecutive matches against Aston Villa and Everton, quickly winning over the Cherries’ supporters.
The qualities that defined his game in Brazil – pace, strength, and directness – have translated seamlessly into Premier League football. The teenager ended his debut campaign with five goals and two assists in 1,120 minutes, catching the attention of several elite clubs.
Spanish publication AS reports that Manchester United have held internal discussions about reigniting their pursuit of the Brazilian winger. The same report also notes that Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, last season’s Champions League finalists, have also expressed interest in exploring a transfer.
Although Rayan primarily operates as a right-winger, he has experience playing on the left flank and as a central striker. His physicality and finishing ability suggest he could be most effective in a central attacking role. This versatility provides further explanation for United’s continued pursuit, even though their immediate focus lies on reinforcing the left side.
Bournemouth, however, are firm in their stance that their prized asset will not be leaving this summer. Rayan’s contract runs until 2031 and includes a release clause of £86 million, which only becomes active from next year.
If Manchester United wish to fast-track a deal, it would likely require an offer surpassing Old Trafford’s current transfer record. Interestingly, United are also keeping tabs on Rayan’s teammate Alex Scott, though Bournemouth remain equally determined to retain the 22-year-old midfielder beyond this transfer window.
