The Round of 16 fixtures continue as the most successful nation in World Cup history, Brazil, face a determined Norway side aiming to make their deepest run ever in the competition.
Brazil and Norway will clash on Sunday for a coveted spot in the World Cup quarter-finals.
The Selecao topped their group and then survived a scare in the Round of 32, coming from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Japan, ensuring their progression into this stage of the tournament.
Norway, on the other hand, finished second in their group behind France. After making ten changes for their final group game against Les Bleus, they returned to full strength and claimed a 2-1 win over Ivory Coast in their most recent outing.
The match will take place at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, located just across the bridge from New York City.
Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. local time (9 p.m. UK time), with ITV broadcasting the game live in the United Kingdom.
The referee in charge of the match will be Ismail Elfath, who is set to officiate his third game of the tournament on what is effectively his home ground.
Originally born and raised in Morocco, Elfath moved to the United States at the age of 18 and is now an American citizen. His entire refereeing career has been built within the U.S. football system.
Elfath reached the pinnacle of his profession when he was appointed to officiate the 2022 World Cup final between Argentina and France — a testament to his reputation as one of the world’s top referees.
This will be his third appearance in the current competition, having previously overseen the Netherlands’ 2-2 draw with Japan and a heated encounter between Uruguay and Spain.
In that latter match, Elfath issued a straight red card to Uruguay’s Agustin Canobbio for a dangerous high tackle during stoppage time and handled the forward’s angry protests with composure and authority.
Assisting Elfath will be two fellow Americans, Corey Parker and Kyle Atkins, who will serve as his assistant referees on the sidelines.
The fourth official will be Juan Gabriel Calderon from Costa Rica, with his compatriot Juan Carlos Mora acting as the reserve assistant referee.
Heading the VAR team is Nicaragua’s Tatiana Guzman, supported by American Armando Villarreal and Qatar’s Khamis Al-Marri.
