Manchester United have already missed out on two of their top transfer targets this summer.
Last season, United managed to sign Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko despite not being part of any European competition. Each of the three forwards was eager to join the Red Devils, enabling INEOS to complete the deals without engaging in major bidding battles.
However, the same approach did not work with Mateus Fernandes and Elliot Anderson, as United refused to pay inflated prices to outbid Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City for their signings.
West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville has become one of the most talked-about players in the transfer market after a dazzling World Cup campaign, during which he was directly involved in four goals.
The Netherlands international has long been on Manchester United’s radar. A recent report by Sky Sports stated that he is now the club’s primary target for strengthening the left wing.
Nonetheless, as per CaughtOffside, United will need to fend off serious interest from Liverpool, who are also pursuing the 24-year-old Dutch winger.
According to the report, “Sources close to the agents industry have informed CaughtOffside that Liverpool have made a serious move for the winger who has impressed at the World Cup.”
Manager Andoni Iraola is reportedly in search of an “explosive option” in attack, and Summerville’s pace, direct style, and ability to take on defenders from the left flank make him a compelling choice.
It is reported that West Ham have placed a public valuation of £50 million on Summerville, but if relegation pressures mount, they could be compelled to “consider offers closer to the £30m-£40m range.”
Both Liverpool and Manchester United are financially capable of meeting such a valuation, which means the player’s personal preference could ultimately decide his destination.
Earlier, The Peoples Person cited reports suggesting that Summerville has expressed a clear desire to join Manchester United and communicated this stance to his representatives.
The West Ham star is said to view United as his “ultimate destination,” believing Old Trafford offers him the best opportunity to compete for both the Champions League and the Premier League titles.
