The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a major revamp of the squad on July 6 in the run up to the much-awaited three-match One Day International (ODI) series against England, starting July 14 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Seam-bowling all-rounder Shivam Dube, known for his power-hitting, has been officially inducted into the 15-member squad as a replacement for rising star Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Injury Update: Nitish Reddy Ruled Out, Shivam Dube Comes In

Nitish Kumar Reddy has been completely ruled out of the tour with a recurring quadriceps injury. The 23-year-old Sunrisers Hyderabad star had picked the strain during the third ODI against Afghanistan in Chennai in June. BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia said that they are still waiting for the medical team at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) to come up with a concrete timeline for Reddy’s return to competitive cricket. The rehabilitation process has also sadly ruled him out of the upcoming bilateral T20I fixtures in Zimbabwe.

Therefore, Shivam Dube, who is currently in the UK playing for India in the five-match T20I series, has been asked to extend his stay and go directly into the ODI setup. Dube is a two-time T20 World Cup winner and will look to add value to India’s middle-order and provide a crucial medium-pace bowling option under English conditions.

Is Virat Kohli Fit For Playing?

The burning question on every Indian cricket fan’s mind is about the availability of modern-day maestro Virat Kohli. The star batter had picked up an injury to his right hamstring during the high-voltage IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad and subsequently missed the following white ball assignments. In the new squad, the BCCI took away the asterisk from Virat Kohli’s name, revealing that the batting talisman has passed his fitness test and will be fully available for the series.

Kohli was included in the original squad as long as he passed strict fitness clearances. A dedicated sports science team of the CoE even flew to London, where Kohli was resting with his family, to prepare a personalised rehabilitation blueprint. The former India captain’s recovery finally seems to be complete after successful re-assessment and full fitness test at the Bengaluru headquarters on June 22. Once again, he is xpected to lead the batting with the usual anchors Rohit Sharma and captain Shubman Gill.

India’s updated ODI squad: Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, Shivam Dube.
