Medical tests have been scheduled for this week as Michael Carrick prepares to secure his first signing of the summer transfer window.
Manchester United are poised to officially announce their first addition of the summer earlier than previously anticipated.
An agreement has been in place for several weeks for Ederson to become manager Michael Carrick’s first new signing ahead of the upcoming season.
As per multiple reports, United reached an agreement with Atalanta for a transfer fee totalling £35 million, with an additional £3.8 million in performance-related add-ons, prior to the World Cup. The Brazilian midfielder is expected to commit to a four-year contract.
The deal has now been finalised sooner than expected.
Brazil were eliminated from the World Cup on Sunday after a defeat to Norway before the quarter-final stage. It was the first occasion since 1990 that the Selecao failed to progress to the last eight of the tournament.
However, Brazil’s early exit has benefited Manchester United, as Ederson is now free to complete his move to Old Trafford.
According to TEAMtalk, Ederson will travel to England this week to undergo his medical examinations and sign his contract to officially become a Manchester United player.
Ederson is expected to be the first of at least two new midfield additions to join the club this summer.
Italian legend Andrea Pirlo spoke highly of the Brazilian, stating: “He is a player who will suit the Premier League. He is dynamic, energetic, and someone who can adapt very well there.”
Manchester United had initially targeted both Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, but both opted to join Tottenham Hotspur instead, as Roberto De Zerbi secured two of his key midfield targets for a combined £185 million.
This development has prompted United and Carrick to turn their attention further down their list of transfer targets, which includes Chelsea’s Andrey Santos. There is also interest in Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni.
Standard Sport understands that while Chelsea value Santos, the young midfielder is open to a move away this summer in search of consistent first-team opportunities. Newcastle United are also believed to be monitoring the Brazilian’s situation.
TEAMtalk further reports that Manchester United are preparing an ambitious approach for Tchouameni, a long-term admirer of the club, with preliminary talks with Real Madrid expected to begin in the coming days.
However, Real Madrid are reluctant to part with Tchouameni, who remains a key figure in their squad, and would reportedly demand a minimum of €100 million (£85 million) to consider any offer.
Another potential option is Felix Nmecha, although Borussia Dortmund are understood to value the 25-year-old midfielder at around €120 million (approximately £103 million).
