Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly engaged in ongoing discussions regarding a potential deal that would see Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos move to Old Trafford, as per reports from the Daily Mail.
The Red Devils have already finalised an agreement with Atalanta for another Brazilian, Ederson, and the 22-year-old Santos could soon be joining his compatriot at the Theatre of Dreams.
Manchester United are believed to be closing in on securing Santos’ signature, with negotiations to bring the highly rated young talent progressing positively.
Chelsea, while open to letting Santos leave, are demanding a transfer fee of £50 million. Although United are hoping to pay a lower amount, growing optimism from both clubs suggests the deal could soon be completed.
Santos is reportedly keen to join a club competing in the UEFA Champions League, aiming to prove himself at the highest level after the disappointment of missing out on the World Cup.
The midfielder had been included in Brazil’s initial 55-man provisional squad for the World Cup but was ultimately left out of the final 26-player list.
Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti chose Ederson over Santos as a late replacement for right-back Wesley, who sustained an injury shortly before the tournament commenced.
Securing regular Champions League football could significantly enhance Santos’ prospects of becoming a mainstay in the Brazilian national team.
Should the transfer go through, Santos could find himself competing directly with Ederson, both for a starting role at Manchester United and for a place in Brazil’s midfield lineup.
