More than 40 lakh suspicious accounts deleted – Meta claims

Meta claims to have deleted more than 4 million suspicious accounts from Facebook and Instagram worldwide in the past year. Apart from this, more than 3.60 crore content to child sexual exploitation has also been deleted. In India, the company said that in the last six months, AI tools have used AI tools to remove 1.60 lakh accounts that were sharing links to suspicious activity to child sexual exploitation. According to the company, between October and December 2025, 1.3 million child sexual abuse content has been removed from Facebook and Instagram. Of this, 96 percent of the content was deleted by the company itself before receiving complaints from users.

Meta denied the allegations

Meta has denied the allegations leveled against the company as false, saying that the company knowingly shows ads to children to people with inappropriate interests. The company said that its system is designed to identify and take action against such suspicious accounts. The company has said that its system has already taken action against many of the offending ads and accounts. In the meantime, many ads have been removed and some accounts have also been closed, as well as URLs associated with offensive content have been blocked.

Information is also sent to legal entities

Meta said that whenever they come across a case involving children, the information is passed on to the US agency NCMEC. In India this information is shared by NCMEC through the National Cyber ​​Crime Reporting Portal.

What is the whole matter?

The controversy erupted after a media report claimed that Instagram was running paid ads promoting content to child sexual abuse and redirecting users to other platforms. Following this, on July 4, the ministry issued a notice to Meta, ordering it to immediately remove all advertisements and content to CSEAM. The company was also asked to submit a detailed reply within seven days. Although Meta has not yet officially responded to this notice, a blog post has now been shared about it.
