Manchester United have had a hectic last 24 hours, finalising agreements for two new signings.
On Wednesday, the Red Devils reached a deal with Chelsea for Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos, who successfully completed his medical examination earlier today.
In a separate move, United also finalised a free transfer agreement with former Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow to join the club.
The club’s management, led by INEOS, is also evaluating options to strengthen the left side of the pitch, keeping tabs on several wingers and full-backs.
Among the names being considered is Lewis Hall, a player highly regarded by United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox. However, Newcastle United are reportedly reluctant to sell Hall to their Premier League rivals this summer.
According to a report by the BBC, Manchester United have now registered their interest in Nottingham Forest’s left-back Neco Williams.
The Wales international joined Forest from Liverpool in 2022 for a transfer fee of £12 million. Since his arrival at the City Ground, he has made 160 appearances, drawing attention from several other Premier League clubs.
Williams has earned a reputation for his adaptability and tactical intelligence, demonstrating the ability to perform effectively in both a back four and a back five formation, while being comfortable on either flank.
Standing at 6 feet tall, the determined defender is also known for his attacking contributions, having been directly involved in six goals across 53 appearances in all competitions for Forest last season.
The BBC further reports that Williams is currently in discussions with Nottingham Forest over a new contract. The club remains optimistic that their dependable full-back will commit to an extension. His current deal runs until 2029.
However, the report also notes that interest from Manchester United and Newcastle United “does create a potential obstacle” to these negotiations.
Earlier this summer, United had shown interest in Elliot Anderson, but Nottingham Forest eventually sold the England midfielder to Manchester City, who broke the British transfer record to secure his signing.
In addition, United have been linked with attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White. Forest are expected to demand a transfer fee similar to that of Anderson’s move should they consider selling the player.
