France became the first nation to secure a place in the 2026 World Cup semi-finals after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Morocco on Thursday.

The African powerhouse was expected to provide a stern challenge for the 2018 champions, but goals from Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele ensured France’s smooth passage to the next round.

With that win, France have strengthened their position as the clear favourites to lift the trophy on July 19. Their attacking prowess remains formidable, and their defensive organisation has been equally impressive.

Under Didier Deschamps, Les Bleus breezed through the group stage, dispatching Senegal, Iraq, and Norway with ease.

They then outclassed Sweden in the round of 32, with Mbappe’s explosive pace and skill leaving defenders in disarray.

The key question now is whether any team can interrupt France’s seemingly unstoppable march toward World Cup glory.

Argentina, Spain, and England are among the other top contenders, yet each may find it difficult to cope with France’s strength and depth.

Opponents must deal not only with Mbappe’s brilliance but also with the collective threat posed by Dembele, Michael Olise, and Desire Doue.

Paraguay demonstrated that containment is possible during the round of 16, holding France at bay for over an hour before Mbappe broke the deadlock from the penalty spot.

However, Paraguay’s effort was also characterised by their tactical fouls and time-wasting to disrupt France’s rhythm.

Confidence is soaring in the French camp as they await the outcome of the Spain versus Belgium clash to determine their semi-final opponent.

Spain have grown stronger as the tournament has progressed, recovering well after a surprising 0-0 draw against Cape Verde in their opening fixture.

They have yet to concede a goal in five matches and are widely tipped to overcome Belgium in Friday’s quarter-final encounter.
