Kylian Mbappé continues to strengthen his legacy as one of the all-time greats in FIFA World Cup history.
The Real Madrid forward played a decisive role in France’s 2-0 quarter-final victory over Morocco, scoring once and assisting another. With that performance, Mbappé has now been directly involved in 11 goals at the 2026 World Cup — eight goals and three assists.
This outstanding statistic makes him the first player in 56 years to register 11 or more direct goal contributions in a single World Cup. The last footballer to achieve this feat was German legend Gerd Müller, who netted 10 goals and provided three assists during the 1970 tournament.
Prior to Müller, French icon Just Fontaine delivered one of the most remarkable World Cup campaigns ever seen, scoring a record 13 goals in the 1958 finals — a record that still stands to this day.
Mbappé’s current exploits have also surpassed several legendary World Cup performances, including his own sensational run in Qatar in 2022, when he finished with eight goals and two assists. His tally also eclipses Diego Maradona’s memorable 1986 campaign, where the Argentine captain led his nation to glory with five goals and five assists.
With France still in contention for another world title, Mbappé is on track to challenge Fontaine’s long-standing record. No matter how the remainder of the tournament unfolds, the 27-year-old has already ensured his status among the most iconic players in World Cup history.
