Claims have emerged regarding a data leak involving students appearing for CUET 2026 and board examinations. Here are the details of the situation, the NTA's response, and the precautions students should take.
A major issue concerning the data of students participating in CUET 2026 and various board examinations has come to light. Reports claim that certain websites are selling students' personal information. This news has sparked concerns among students and parents regarding data security. However, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has stated that its systems are completely secure.
Websites Claiming to Sell Data Under Scrutiny
According to reports, certain websites on the internet claim to possess a database of students appearing for CUET 2026 and other board exams. These websites reportedly supply student data to private universities, colleges, and admission-related institutions. The price of the database is said to range from approximately ₹1,000 to ₹10,000, depending on its size and the information contained within it.
Details Allegedly Included in the Data
The alleged database reportedly contains various pieces of personal information, such as students' names, mobile numbers, email IDs, application numbers, dates of birth, parents' names, gender, and category. Reports also claim that some websites have displayed a limited number of records as samples to reassure potential buyers; however, these claims remain unverified.
If a student's personal information is accessed or sold without authorization, the risk of misuse increases significantly. Such data could be exploited for fraudulent admission calls, spam messages, cyber scams, or identity theft. This is why issues related to data security are treated with the utmost seriousness.
What the NTA Said
Addressing the matter, the National Testing Agency stated that the security of candidates' information is its top priority. According to the agency, data related to examinations and results is shared only through secure government platforms and via a consent-based process. The NTA states that its official systems are secure and that necessary measures are taken to protect candidates' information.
