Manchester City have confirmed the signing of highly-rated 17-year-old winger Jeremy Monga from Leicester City in a deal valued at up to £10 million. The Premier League champions managed to outmanoeuvre Arsenal, who had been in advanced talks for the youngster, to secure his services. Monga has put pen to paper on a five-year contract and will immediately join the senior squad at the Etihad Stadium.
City seal deal for teenage prodigy
The club from the blue half of Manchester finalised the £10 million agreement for Monga in the same week he turned 17. This bold transfer move effectively disrupted Arsenal’s well-prepared efforts to sign the teenager after extensive discussions over the summer. Instead of being assigned to the youth set-up, Monga will be integrated straight into the first-team environment to continue his development among elite players.
Monga delighted with dream move
Following the official confirmation of his move, Monga expressed his joy at joining what he described as the most successful English side of the past decade. He credited City’s proven record of developing and promoting young talents as a major influence behind his decision to make the switch.
In his first interview as a City player, Monga said, “When I found out Manchester City were interested, I immediately knew it was the right move for me. For any young player, joining such an incredible club is a dream come true.
“Over the past 10 years, this has been the best club in England. The opportunities given to Academy players like Phil Foden and Nico O’Reilly show that there’s a clear pathway to the first team. It’s an honour to be here, and I’m thrilled to have signed.”
Viana hails promising prospect
City’s interest in Monga dates back some time, but the arrival of manager Enzo Maresca – who previously worked with the player during his spell at Leicester – proved crucial in completing the transfer. Monga already holds a record as one of the youngest debutants in the competition’s history, having made his senior bow at just 15 in April 2025.
City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, praised the young winger’s potential and reaffirmed the club’s commitment to guiding his progress. “Jeremy is an exciting talent who has already achieved a lot in his young career. We’ve tracked him closely and witnessed his quality during his time at Leicester,” Viana said.
“At just 17, we believe he will continue to grow and that joining Manchester City is the perfect next step for him. We’re eager to support him in every part of his journey.”
Asian tour next for rising star
Monga will immediately travel with the City first-team squad for their pre-season tour of Asia later this month. Friendly fixtures against Inter, the K-League All Stars, and Atletico Madrid will offer him an early chance to impress the coaching team and adapt to his new surroundings.
