The England midfielder is no longer at risk of suspension as the team heads into the World Cup semi-finals.

Jude Bellingham has opened up about a meaningful conversation with his mother, Denise, which he believes played a key role in England’s World Cup campaign.

Bellingham was the hero on Saturday, scoring both goals in England’s 2-1 extra-time victory against Norway to secure a place in the World Cup semi-finals. The Three Lions will now take on reigning champions Argentina in Atlanta on Wednesday.

The Real Madrid star was one of four England players walking a disciplinary tightrope during the Norway clash. Alongside Bellingham, Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi, and Declan Rice were all one booking away from missing the semi-final.

Fortunately for England, the only yellow card issued during the entire 120 minutes went to Norway’s Kristoffer Ajer, leaving Gareth Southgate’s side with a clean slate. The risk of suspension has now been lifted for the quartet, meaning all are eligible to play in the upcoming semi-final — including Bellingham.

“My mum’s been telling me all week to watch my language, watch my tackles, watch my face, watch my emotions,” Bellingham shared after the match.

“I think she drilled it into me all week about being careful of that yellow card,” he added.

He also praised referee Clement Turpin for his approach during the game. “Credit to the referee. He was class. He still let you communicate in a respectful way. A lot of referees don’t let you do that.

“So I think when I get the balance right and there’s a referee who’s willing to listen, it makes it a lot easier. And in the end, it was just a really well-contested game of football, and luckily I got through it.”
