Taylor Swift, despite never working on Netflix’s ‘Little House on the Prairie’, unknowingly played a big part in bringing its young stars closer.
Alice Halsey, who takes on the role of Laura Ingalls in the reimagined series, opened up about this surprising bond in a chat with PEOPLE. “Listen, I am a Swiftie beyond your imagination,” she said. “I absolutely love her. I love all of her songs.”
Halsey is not alone in her fandom. Her co-stars Skywalker Hughes, who plays Mary, and Crosby Fitzgerald, who takes on the role of Caroline, are also devoted fans of the pop star.
“I think that that was definitely a big bonding thing for us,” Halsey shared. She recalled connecting with Hughes almost instantly over their shared love for pop music and Swift in particular. “Crosby is also a Swiftie,” she added.
According to Halsey, this common interest brought the trio closer while filming, something that mirrors the on-screen sisterly and family bond audiences see in the show. “I think that in the show you can definitely see how music is something that keeps us really tight, and in real life, that was the same,” she said.
However, one member of the cast was not initially part of this Swiftie circle. Luke Bracey, who plays Charles Ingalls, had not quite caught the Taylor Swift wave like the rest of his co-stars. Once they realized this, they made it their mission to change that.
“When we learned that Luke was not super-duper familiar with Taylor, we were like, ‘Okay, we’re making you a Swiftie,’” Halsey joked. “So, we forced him to listen to ‘Anti-Hero’ 500 times.”
So, is their plan actually working? Fitzgerald believes it is. “He is learning,” she said of her on-screen husband. “He is learning, and he actually loves it. He gets a real kick out of it, and he has fun too. We have our little moments with Luke, but I am really trying.”
Fitzgerald also shared that she has been trying to get Bracey to sit down and watch Swift’s concert documentary. “Last night I was trying to really talk him into watching the Taylor Swift’s, The Eras Tour documentary,” she said. She recalled claiming, “You’re going to love it,” to which Bracey simply surrendered, “Alright, mate, I will check it out.”
Whether or not Bracey fully joins the Swiftie club, one clear thing is that the shared love for Taylor Swift has quietly shaped the bond between the young stars of Little House on the Prairie. Season 1 is streaming now on Netflix.
