  • 2 tbsp black or yellow mustard seeds
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 3-4 garlic cloves to taste
  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 3-4 medium-sized drumsticks, peeled and cut into 2-3 inch pieces
  • 1-2 medium sized potatoes, peeled and cut lengthwise
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil
  • 1/2 tsp cumin or panchphoron
  • 1 medium tomato, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • salt, as per taste
  • 1-1.5 cups water
  • Freshly chopped coriander for garnishing

Method of making drumstick curry

  • Prepare mustard paste. Soak the mustard seeds in hot water for about 10 minutes. Grind soaked mustard seeds, green chillies, garlic and salt and make a smooth paste. Add some water as per requirement. Keep the paste aside.
  • Now heat mustard oil in a heavy bottomed pan or kadai. When hot, add cumin seeds or panchphoron and let them crackle. Add chopped potatoes and fry for 2-3 minutes until light brown. Add drumstick pieces and fry for 2-3 minutes more.
  • Prepare the curry base. Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder and red chili powder to the pan. Cook the tomatoes until soft.
  • Now add mustard paste in it. Lower the flame and add the prepared mustard paste and keep stirring for 2-3 minutes until the oil starts separating from the spices. To remove the rawness of mustard, it is important to fry the spices properly.
  • Cook the curry on low flame. Add water and add salt as per taste. Mix the gravy well. Let the mixture boil.
  • Cook the vegetables until soft. Cover the pan and let it cook on low to medium flame for 10-15 minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve drumstick and mustard curry hot with plain boiled rice.
  • You will definitely like the sweet taste of drumstick and the spicy, spicy taste of mustard paste.
