England’s triumph over Norway did more than just book the English team a place in the FIFA World Cup semifinals — it also led to a playful twist involving two airlines.
In the days leading up to the quarterfinal clash last Saturday (11 July 2026), British Airways and Norwegian Air had engaged in some friendly online banter. Their social media teams exchanged messages that quickly evolved into a lighthearted wager.
The deal was simple: the airline whose national football team lost the match would have to replace its Instagram logo with the other’s for an entire day.
Norwegian Air kicked off the challenge, posting: “Hey, British Airways, fancy a bet? 👀🇳🇴🏴 If Norway win, you’ll have to change your Instagram logo to ours on Sunday for one day. And vice versa. Deal? 🤝”
British Airways promptly responded with a cheeky comeback: “Don’t make bets you can’t win 😉.”
Once the match kicked off, Jude Bellingham rose to the occasion, scoring the decisive goal that sealed England’s victory. True to their word, Norwegian Air honoured the agreement and temporarily changed its social media identity to display the British Airways logo for 24 hours.
The humorous gesture quickly caught the attention of fans online, many applauding both airlines for embracing the fun spirit of the sport.
With this win, England now progress to face Argentina in the semifinals next Wednesday (15 July). The other semifinal, featuring France and Spain, is scheduled for Tuesday (14 July). The grand final will take place on Sunday (19 July).
