The statistics surrounding Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans have caught widespread attention, surfacing just as the Belgian star edges closer to sealing a move to Manchester United.

Reports earlier today confirmed that United are in advanced negotiations to finalise the signing of Tielemans from Villa Park.

From his impressive spell at Leicester City to his current stint with Villa, Tielemans has built a strong reputation as one of the Premier League’s top midfielders, earning praise for both his defensive intelligence and refined technical ability.

Although several clubs were reportedly monitoring the 29-year-old, Tielemans made it clear that his sole focus was on joining Manchester United.

Michael Carrick’s side shifted their attention to the Belgian after withdrawing from a potential deal for Ederson. United had reached an agreement with Atalanta last month, but the player’s medical was delayed until after Brazil’s World Cup campaign.

On Friday, Fabrizio Romano reported that United had decided to abandon the Ederson transfer. The Brazilian has since departed the UK and could now extend his stay with Atalanta by signing a new contract.

Romano further confirmed that United have reached a full agreement with Villa for the transfer of Tielemans. Despite Villa’s desire to retain him, United activated his £35 million release clause, leaving the Birmingham club with no power to intervene.

Tielemans is scheduled to undergo his medical within the next 24 hours as United aim to complete the deal swiftly.

As the transfer nears completion, data analyst Statman Dave has highlighted that the midfielder was among the Premier League’s elite in several key performance metrics last season.

According to Statman Dave, Tielemans ranked within the top 10% of Premier League midfielders for tackles, interceptions, fouls won, through balls, progressive passes, and passes into the final third during the previous campaign.

These numbers underline Tielemans’s versatility and balance as a player, suggesting he will adapt seamlessly to life at Old Trafford.

Adding to the excitement, Tielemans could form a midfield partnership with Andrey Santos, who boasted a 67.8% success rate in ground duels in the Premier League last season—the highest of any midfielder in the competition.

Manchester United are also expected to target a third midfield recruit this summer, with Ayyoub Bouaddi, Manu Kone, Alex Scott, and Adam Wharton all being seriously considered.
