New Delhi: New Zealand bounced back strongly to beat West Indies by five wickets in the second ODI in Guyana, drawing the five-match series level at 1-1. Left-arm spinner Jayden Lennox produced the best performance of his ODI career with figures of 5-19 as the visitors restricted West Indies to just 138 after a dramatic batting collapse.
West Indies looked comfortable early in their innings after openers John Campbell (43) and Akeem August (18) added 63 runs for the first wicket. However, once the opening stand was broken, the hosts lost all ten wickets for just 65 runs. Lennox was the standout performer, claiming his first five-wicket haul in only his seventh ODI appearance after making his international debut at the age of 31.

Mitchell Santner also played a key role with the ball as he dismissed Keacy Carty for 18 with a sharp turning delivery, while Lennox removed captain Shai Hope for just seven after the West Indies skipper had starred with an unbeaten 87 in the opening ODI. Amir Jangoo’s 24 was the only other notable contribution as the innings ended on 138.
The bowling figures were another milestone for Lennox with his 5-19 becoming the third-best ODI figures by a New Zealand spinner.

The Black Caps’ chase was not straightforward on a pitch offering plenty of turn. Henry Nicholls scored 17 and will Young added 28 before the visitors slipped to 96-5. Mark Chapman was run out for a duck while Daryl Mitchell made 28 before being stumped after trying to attack Khary Pierre.
Tom Latham remained calm under pressure, finishing unbeaten on 37. He shared an unbroken partnership with Mark Bracewell, who scored 18 and also reached 1,000 ODI runs during the innings. Their stand guided New Zealand to victory with 104 balls remaining, securing the country’s 400th win in one-day internationals. The third ODI of the series will be played in Guyana on Thursday.
