Brighton & Hove Albion have officially completed the signing of Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur for a club-record initial fee of £46 million.

The 19-year-old centre-back, who featured for Croatia against England at this summer’s World Cup, has signed a five-year deal with the Seagulls, which includes an option to extend for an additional year. Tottenham could receive up to £4 million more in performance-related add-ons, taking the total potential fee to £50 million. The agreement also contains a 20 per cent sell-on clause.

Vuskovic had joined Tottenham from Hajduk Split in 2025 and spent the previous season on loan with German side Hamburg. Despite not making a competitive appearance for Spurs, the young defender was determined to secure regular first-team football and preferred a permanent move rather than another loan spell.

Speaking to Brighton’s official website, head coach Fabian Hurzeler expressed his excitement about the new signing, saying, “Luka has started his career brilliantly – we’ve kept a close eye on his progress. Last season he showed that he can perform at a very high level, and we’re eager to help him continue developing within our setup.”

Hurzeler further commented, “There has been a lot of talk outside the club about Luka joining us, but he’s still a young player who will need some time to adapt to the demands of Brighton and the Premier League. We’re confident that he’ll handle the transition well.”

The transfer marks Tottenham’s first major outgoing of the summer window, following a series of big-money arrivals at the north London club. Spurs have been aggressive in the market, investing £100 million to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United and an additional £85 million on midfielder Mateus Fernandes after West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League.

Earlier this month, Tottenham also acquired Jan Paul van Vecke from Brighton for £52 million. In addition, they have strengthened their squad with several free transfers, including Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka.

Spurs are reportedly continuing their recruitment drive and have shown interest in Bournemouth’s promising youngster Eli Junior Kroupi.

Meanwhile, Brighton are also expected to make further additions to their squad as they prepare for a return to European competition. The Seagulls will participate in the UEFA Conference League next season after finishing eighth in the Premier League during the previous campaign.
