Manchester United have completed two midfield signings this week, yet the club’s recruitment department is continuing its efforts to strengthen further.
Following the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, the Red Devils have acquired two players renowned for their ability to break defensive lines through precise passing.
United entered the summer transfer window with the goal of adding three midfielders to their squad, and they have already pinpointed the kind of player they want next in that position.
Earlier this week, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported that Manchester United intend to pursue midfielders with energy and dynamism to complement Kobbie Mainoo along with the newly signed duo.
Now, as per journalist Fabrizio Romano, United have begun making contact with agents representing defensive midfielders following the successful acquisition of Tielemans and Santos.
Romano noted, “Manu Kone is among the players being discussed internally, with an initial approach made on the player’s side; he’s not the only one.”
Speaking further on his YouTube channel, the Italian reporter added that United have already “made a call to the agents of” Kone to explore a potential transfer.
The AS Roma midfielder, widely regarded as “hugely underrated,” is said to be among those appreciated by Manchester United’s technical director Jason Wilcox and his recruitment team.
Manu Kone stood out as one of France’s top performers at the recent World Cup. He stepped in for the injured Aurelien Tchouameni during the knockout matches against Paraguay and Morocco, delivering strong performances in both games.
Standing at 6’1”, Kone brought physical dominance and composure to France’s midfield, ensuring Les Bleus did not feel the absence of Tchouameni’s shielding presence. In fact, with the ball at his feet, he arguably outperformed the Real Madrid star.
Kone is currently under contract with AS Roma for another three years, but the Italian club could be compelled to sell due to financial constraints. Reports indicate that a fee in the region of £47 million would be required to bring Roma to the negotiating table.
Romano also suggested that Manchester United have several other defensive midfielders under consideration as part of their transfer shortlist.
