Mason Greenwood has officially completed his €39 million transfer to Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce, marking the end of his productive spell in Ligue 1 with Marseille. The deal represents a major financial investment by the Super Lig club and also delivers a significant financial gain to Manchester United, thanks to a sizeable sell-on clause included in his previous transfer.

Fenerbahce confirm high-profile Greenwood signing

Fenerbahce have formally announced the arrival of English forward Mason Greenwood from Olympique de Marseille. The 24-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Istanbul-based club, signalling his commitment to becoming a central figure in the Yellow Canaries’ ambitions for domestic and continental success.

The transfer comes after an impressive season in France, where Greenwood re-established himself as one of Europe’s finest attacking talents. The club’s official announcement on their media platforms welcomed the forward and highlighted the excitement surrounding his debut in Istanbul.

Financial details of the transfer unveiled

Fenerbahce disclosed the full payment structure of the deal, confirming that they have reached a comprehensive agreement with Marseille and the player. The total transfer amount stands at €39 million (£33m/$44m), which will be paid in three equal installments over a three-year period rather than in a single lump sum.

In their official communication, the Turkish club stated: “The total transfer fee of 39,000,000 Euros will be paid to the Olympique de Marseille club in 3 equal installments over 3 years. In addition, the solidarity contribution fee that will arise in accordance with FIFA regulations will be paid by our club.”

Manchester United to gain from the deal

Although the transfer is between Marseille and Fenerbahce, Manchester United are set to benefit significantly. When United sold Greenwood to the French side, they reportedly inserted a large sell-on clause, estimated to be between 40% and 50% of any future sale. As a result, the Premier League club could earn close to €20 million (£17m/$23m) from this transaction.

This financial boost comes at an important juncture for the Red Devils as they aim to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The proceeds from a homegrown talent enhance United’s financial position in the transfer market while Greenwood begins a fresh chapter in the Turkish top flight.

Greenwood’s new beginning in Istanbul

Fenerbahce have expressed strong optimism about their new signing as they continue their push to reclaim dominance from rivals Galatasaray. The club’s recruitment strategy has been assertive, and Greenwood is viewed as the final piece in their attacking setup, which already includes several experienced international players.

The English star is expected to lead the frontline as Fenerbahce strive to return to the summit of Turkish football. A club spokesperson extended a warm welcome to the former Manchester United player, saying: “We say ‘Welcome to our family’ to Mason Greenwood; we wish him many victories and championships in Yellow and Navy Blue with our Fenerbahce.”
