Airport fashion has changed a lot over the years. Oversized hoodies, matching co-ords and luxury handbags have almost become the unofficial celebrity uniform. But every now and then, someone reminds us that nothing beats a well-put-together Indian outfit.
That someone is Nayanthara.
The actor was spotted leaving Mumbai late on Wednesday evening, and instead of reaching for athleisure or designer separates, she stepped out in an easy black kurta set from Taram. It wasn't flashy. It wasn't trying too hard. And that's exactly why it worked.
The outfit was built around a sleeveless black kurta with matching bottoms - one of those combinations that rarely goes out of style. The silhouette was relaxed enough for a flight but still looked neat, making it the kind of outfit many women would happily wear beyond the airport.
The real charm, though, came from the dupatta.
Draped casually over both shoulders, it added all the colour the outfit needed. Woven in bold panels of orange, pink, olive green, grey and deep maroon, it instantly broke up the sea of black. Small handcrafted details and tassels gave it a lived-in, artisanal feel instead of making it look overly dressy.
It's the sort of styling trick that's easy to borrow. Start with basics, then let one statement piece do the work.
She paired the look with tan Aprajita Toor Kolhapuri sandals, keeping comfort front and centre. If you've travelled through an airport, you'll know why sensible footwear always wins. The classic Kolhapuris blended effortlessly with the outfit and added to its understated charm.
Nayanthara also kept the accessories to a minimum. A delicate pendant, a wristwatch and her signature black bindi were enough. Nothing felt excessive or carefully curated for the cameras.
Her beauty look followed the same approach.
She wore her hair loose in soft waves with a centre parting, while her makeup stayed fresh and understated. Defined eyes, healthy-looking skin and nude lips completed the look without stealing attention from the outfit itself.
That's probably what makes Nayanthara's style so relatable.
She isn't constantly chasing the next viral fashion trend. Instead, she sticks to clothes that look comfortable, feel authentic and can actually fit into someone's everyday wardrobe. There's an ease to her dressing that doesn't look manufactured.
And in a time when celebrity airport looks are often about expensive labels and head-to-toe luxury, this appearance felt refreshingly grounded.
A classic black kurta, a colourful handloom dupatta and a comfortable pair of Kolhapuris may not sound like the ingredients for a headline-making outfit. But on Nayanthara, they came together beautifully, proving once again that effortless style often leaves the biggest impression.
