Taking a common urine infection (UTI) lightly during the rainy season can sometimes prove costly. Initially it appears to be only a burning sensation while urinating, frequent urge to urinate or mild pain in the lower abdomen. But if treatment is not done in time, this infection can reach the kidneys and become serious. In case of young girls or girls, not paying attention to care becomes very heavy.

Experts say that women and girls make many other mistakes like wearing wet clothes, drinking less water and so on. There is more humidity during the rainy season and such carelessness can cause big problems. Let us tell you through doctors the important causes of UTI and ways of prevention….

Why do urine infections occur?

Dr. Manisha Arora (Director Internal Medicine, CK Birla Hospital) According to , staying in wet clothes for a long time during monsoon, not drinking enough water and not taking care of cleanliness after getting wet in the rain creates a favorable environment for the growth of bacteria. In such a situation the infection can increase rapidly. If the patient starts feeling high fever, chills, severe pain on one side of the waist or back, vomiting or extreme weakness, then it may indicate that the infection has reached the kidneys.

In such a situation, instead of taking home remedies or self-medication, one should immediately contact the doctor. The infection is identified at the right time by getting urine routine test and urine culture done and antibiotics are given accordingly. The good thing is that most UTIs are easily treated in the early stages and serious complications can be avoided.

UTI cases increase in rainy season

Dr. C.S. Mithriyi (Senior Consultant, Obstetrics and Gynecology) It is said that the cause of urine infection in women is not rain but some habits and circumstances occurring in this season. Excessive humidity, sweating, wearing wet clothes for a long time, drinking less water and not taking proper care of personal hygiene give bacteria an opportunity to grow. Many people drink less water during the rainy season due to less thirst, due to which less urine is produced and bacteria easily remain in the urinary tract.

What are the symptoms and treatment?

Initially, symptoms like burning sensation while urinating, frequent urination, foul smell in urine, cloudy urine or sometimes bleeding may be seen. Apart from this, serious problems like high fever, chills, back pain, nausea or vomiting can occur. Pregnant women, diabetic patients, elderly people and people who have weak immunity should take special care in this matter. Timely testing, correct antibiotics and drinking enough water are very effective in preventing the infection from spreading further.

Fear of kidney infection

Dr. Vikram Kalra (Principal Director, Nephrology and Kidney Transplant, Aakash Healthcare Multi Specialty Hospital) According to this, people often think that urine infection will be cured on its own, but in many cases this carelessness can take the infection to the kidneys. Although monsoon does not directly cause UTI, the humidity, heat and certain daily habits of this season increase the risk of infection. A bacteria called E. coli is responsible for most UTIs.
