Pune: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has directed a Pune-based spice and dry fruits shop owned by the family of murder accused Siya Goyal to suspend its business operations after inspectors found alleged violations of food safety regulations during an inspection.
Officials said products worth more than ₹8.14 lakh were seized from the establishment over suspected labeling irregularities and possible adulteration. The action is separate from the ongoing investigation into the murder of Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal.
FDA seizes over 4,000 kg of food products
The inspection was carried out at M/s BG Goyal and Company, located in Pune’s Market Yard area. During the visit, FDA officials collected samples of turmeric powder sold under the ‘Sant’ and ‘Sadhu’ brands, along with sesame seeds and soybean chunks for laboratory testing.
Authorities seized 4,172 kg of stock, including:
- 598 kg of one brand of turmeric powder
- 1,258 kg of another brand of turmeric powder
- 538 kg of sesame seeds
- 1,778 kg of soya mini chunks
The seized products have an estimated market value of ₹8.14 lakh.
License irregularities found during inspection
According to the FDA, inspectors also found that the business had not updated its licensing records as required under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
Citing the alleged violations, the department issued a notice directing the firm to halt all business activities until further orders.
The food samples collected during the inspection will undergo laboratory analysis to determine whether they meet prescribed quality and safety standards.
Action un to murder investigation
The regulatory action comes amid the ongoing investigation into the death of Ketan Agarwal, a 25-year-old Pune-based realtor. Police have accused Siya Goyal and her boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary of allegedly pushing Agarwal off a cliff at Lohagad Fort during a trek on June 18, leading to his death. Both are facing criminal charges in the case.
The FDA’s action concerns alleged violations under food safety laws and is independent of the criminal investigation.
