New Delhi. ISRO, which took India to the Moon and made it one of the world’s major space powers, is going through a new crisis these days. There are reports of resignation of more than 100 scientists from ISRO, the country’s most prestigious space agency, in a year. The news of a large number of scientists and technical experts leaving the organization has increased the government’s concern. After this the Department of Space (DoS) had to issue a new order.

The report shows that this number has increased significantly in the last few months. The most surprising thing is that among these scientists who left ISRO, the main faces who handled ambitious projects like Gaganyaan and Chandrayaan are also included. This sudden sequence of events has given sleepless nights to the government departments and the space department. Let us tell you what is the reason for the resignation of scientists?

Why are scientists leaving ISRO?

The main reason for the departure of experienced talent from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is the boom in the private space sectors of the country. In recent times, the government has made policies to hand over big satellite projects to private companies and transfer the technology of launch vehicles. Since then, the demand for expert space scientists has started skyrocketing in the market. Private sector companies are giving better packages and new opportunities to these scientists. Due to this attraction, many promising scientists of ISRO are leaving government jobs and turning to the corporate space industry, the direct impact of which is being seen on the big projects of the country.

From a statistical point of view, the number of resignations may seem small compared to ISRO’s total of more than 14,600 employees, but its impact is profound. About 80 scientists have left the UR Rao Satellite Centre, where around 1339 employees work. At least 20 senior scientists have left the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center with 4577 employees. These include big names like LVM-3 project director Victor Joseph and Chandrayaan-3 project manager Aditya Rallapalli. With the removal of these prominent faces, there is a danger of slowing down the pace of missions of national importance like Gaganyaan.

Government changed the rules of resignation

To stop this migration of scientists, the Department of Space (DoS) has taken very strict administrative steps. According to the new rules, now the directors of various centers of ISRO will not be able to accept the resignation of any Group A scientist or engineer on their own will. If any scientist is associated with Gaganyaan or any other major project, his application will not be accepted until that mission is completed. Now any scientist seeking VRS or resignation will have to go through strict procedures and the final decision on their applications will be taken directly by the Department of Space Headquarters in Delhi.

How many days is the notice period after resignation?

In the administrative structure of ISRO, it is mandatory for any scientist to follow a fixed procedure before leaving the institute. Under general rules, every employee who wishes to leave the job has to serve written notice i.e. notice period of at least three months in advance. If any scientist wants to leave before this time limit, then he has to deposit the prescribed salary in the department for that time period. This strict rule has been made so that the outgoing scientist can safely hand over his entire work and research data to another partner and there is no hindrance in the important projects of the country.
