The Indian player, ranked 10th in the world, defeated her higher ranked Chinese shuttler 21-16, 21-14 in just 35 minutes in the second round match. Unseeded Sindhu found her rhythm midway through the first game after a slow start. He hit the shuttle accurately and dominated the rallies to take the lead. After this, former world champion Sindhu completely dominated the second game and won the match easily after taking an 8-0 lead.
With this victory, Sindhu has increased her record against Han to 8-1. The 31-year-old will next face Japan’s Nojomi Okuhara, who got a walkover after top-seeded South Korean Ahn Se-young withdrew from her second-round match.
Sindhu is now India’s only player left in the tournament after the mixed doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila made a pre-quarterfinal exit. The Indian pair of Tanisha and Dhruv lost to top-seeded Chinese pair of Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping 20-22, 17-21 in 47 minutes.
