The successful conduct of the Factory Acceptance Trials (FATs) of indigenously manufactured Marine Jet Power (MJP) waterjets at MJP India, Goa were witnessed by the senior officials of Indian Coast Guard, Classification Society and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited representatives marking a significant milestone in India's pursuit of maritime self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Established through a Transfer of Technology (ToT) arrangement with MJP AB Sweden, the facility is a dedicated manufacturing and testing centre for advanced waterjet propulsion systems in India.
The 14 Fast Patrol Vessels (14 FPVs) Project of the Indian Coast Guard, being constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), is the first indigenous shipbuilding project in the country to be fitted with indigenously manufactured MJP waterjet propulsion systems. The successful completion of the inaugural FATs signifies a major step towards the indigenisation of a critical marine propulsion system that was hitherto imported. This achievement will strengthen the domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem, enhance supply chain resilience, reduce dependence on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), improve lifecycle maintenance support, and contribute significantly to the operational readiness and sustainment of future Indian Coast Guard platforms.
