Owaisi made a big demand from the government regarding Sonam Wangchuk.

Sonam Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar for the past 19 days to protest alleged irregularities in the NEET exam. This has heated up political discourse in the country. Meanwhile, AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has demanded that the government address Sonam Wangchuk's demands. The Delhi High Court has directed officials to monitor activist Sonam Wangchuk's health daily and provide him with medical assistance if needed.

Owaisi made this demand from the government.

Regarding Sonam Wangchuk, AIMIM chief Owaisi said, "We hope that something will happen soon and we hope that he is in good health. We urge the Indian government to seriously consider Sonam Wangchuk's demands." Sonam Wangchuk lost more than nine kilograms on Thursday (July 16, 2026), and his doctor warned that his prolonged hunger strike has reached a critical stage and could begin to affect his organs.

Wangchuk released a video message.

This update on Wangchuk's health came hours after he released a video message late Wednesday night. In the video, he refused to end his hunger strike despite appeals from political party leaders and supporters, saying that ending it without a response from the government would send a wrong message. Instead, he appealed to the public to strengthen the Cockroach Janata Party's (CJP) proposed Parliament march on July 20.

Regarding his health, Wangchuk said in a video message that medical tests conducted so far have not revealed any immediate danger. He said, "My condition is not such that I will die in a day or two. Several medical tests have been performed, and the results are quite normal for an 18-day hunger strike. An ECG was also done, and that too is fine. I can continue this for many more days."

Appeal for talks with the government

Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has announced that he will visit Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar on the evening of July 16. Musician Vishal Dadlani, actor Sayaji Shinde, actor Atul Kulkarni, and writer Shobhaa De have also appealed to the government to hold talks with the activist and expressed concern over his deteriorating health.
