AI hardware interface startup Aina has emerged from stealth with a $5.5 Mn (about ₹53 Cr) seed funding round co-led by Redstart Labs, the venture arm of Info Edge Ventures, and 360 ONE Asset.

The round also saw participation from MIXI Global Investments, Antler and Blume Founders Fund. Angel investors included WhatsApp head Kunal Shah, Scribd cofounder Tikhon Bernstam, Razorpay cofounders Harshil Mathur and Shashank Kumar, Better Capital founder Vaibhav Domkundwar, among others, also participated in the round.

The fresh capital will be used to bring Aina’s flagship AI-native interface to market, expand its engineering and product teams. Aina currently has about 35 employees across Bengaluru and San Francisco and operates from a manufacturing facility in Bengaluru.

The startup has also opened the waitlist for an early pilot of its flagship product.

Betting On Context-Aware AI Interfaces

Founded in 2025 by former Ultrahuman VP-hardware Apoorv Shankar, Aina is an AI hardware startup building context-aware interfaces for the AI era.

Prior to Aina, Shankar founded AI wearable startup LazyCo, which was acquired by Ultrahuman in 2022. Following the acquisition, he spent more than three years at Ultrahuman, helping build its consumer hardware and manufacturing capabilities.

The founder is betting on a next major shift in consumer tech that would be based on bringing forth new ways of interacting with AI.

Instead of asking users to constantly navigate apps, keyboards and touchscreens, Aina is building hardware designed to understand context and simplify those interactions.

“As intelligence becomes ubiquitous, AI assistants will get better at understanding context and agents will execute on our behalf. However, the missing piece for AI is a context-aware layer that is paired with an easier way to capture that choice. We are building a general-purpose interface for this future, designed to capture human choice, effortlessly,” Shankar said.

Before building its flagship device, Aina tested its ideas through Dune, a programmable three-key keypad for Mac that changed its functions based on the application being used. The device, along with a natural language AI workflow builder, served as an early experiment in context-aware computing.

After showcasing three prototype AI interfaces at CES, (Consumer Electronics Show) 2026, the startup launched Dune in April. It claims to have shipped hundreds of units and is using the learnings from these early deployments to train its flagship AI-native hardware interface.

Aina is entering the nascent AI hardware segment, where companies such as OpenAI, Meta, Rabbit and Humane are racing to develop the next generation of computing interfaces beyond smartphones and traditional PCs.

The fundraise comes amid emerging investor interest in AI hardware, as advances in GenAI spur a fresh wave of experimentation in consumer devices. Although India’s hardware ecosystem has largely centred on wearables and consumer electronics, Aina is among a handful of startups building AI-native interfaces from the ground up.

India’s wearable AI market is estimated at $3.17 Bn in 2026 and is forecast to reach $19.1 Bn by 2033

India’s AI hardware market is expected to grow to $46.5 Bn by 2033 at a CAGR of 28.1%, while the wearable AI market is projected to reach $19.1 Bnduring the same period, growing at a CAGR of 29.2%.
