India fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has received an official warning from the International Cricket Council for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during India's six-wicket victory over England in the opening ODI at Birmingham. The sanction also includes one demerit point, marking the first offence on Brar's disciplinary record in the last 24 months.
The incident took place early in England's innings after the hosts elected to bat first. According to the ICC, Brar was found to have violated Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct, which deals with "throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an international match."
Incident occurred after Ben Duckett's straight drive
The breach happened in the eighth over when England opener Ben Duckett struck the ball firmly back towards the bowler. Brar reacted by throwing the ball back in the batter's direction, an action that resulted in the charge. The India pacer admitted the offence and accepted the punishment proposed by match referee Jeff Crowe, avoiding the need for a formal disciplinary hearing.
The charge was brought by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns, along with third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth umpire Russell Warren. Under ICC regulations, a Level 1 offence can result in an official reprimand, up to 50 per cent of a player's match fee, and one or two demerit points depending on the severity of the incident.

Brar recovered to play key role in India's win
Despite a difficult start with the ball, Brar bounced back to make an impact in the match. After conceding 26 runs in his opening two overs, the right-arm pacer changed ends and struck twice in the same over, dismissing both Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell to put England under pressure.
He finished with figures of 2 for 61 from nine overs, contributing to India's successful bowling effort before the visitors chased down the target by six wickets. Brar's outing, however, ended on a worrying note when he appeared to clutch his right calf while preparing to bowl the 48th over and was forced to leave the field before completing his spell.
