Former India captain MS Dhoni has been trending on social media once again, without doing anything. A 10-year-old Instagram post by the cricket great has gone viral right now after Argentina qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final against Spain.
Messi's Argentina defeated England 2-1 in the semi-final stage to advance to their 2nd successive World Cup final. Straight away after the result, fans came across an ancient Instagram post posted by Dhoni, during India's tour of Zimbabwe back in 2016.
The picture had Dhoni having a time on PlayStation with Mandeep Singh, Jaydev Unadkat, Axar Patel and Karun Nair. By far the most interesting aspect of the image was the caption attached underneath it, which said "Spain vs Argentina".
Since the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup is between Argentina and Spain, there was such a flood of jokes and memes on social media that Dhoni predicted the coming of the next few years.
Fans React as Dhoni's Old Post Resurfaces
The trending post went viral on social media, with many users describing Dhoni's caption as further evidence of his composed nature and sharp insight. Many users teased that the former captain "knew the future before the rest of the world."
The caption had nothing to do with the World Cup when it was originally posted, but posting it at that time has now proved to be one of the most talked-about points before the final.
Dhoni has also been in the limelight during India's current trip to England. At Edgbaston as well, he was present during the first ODI between India and England, where a comfortable six-wicket win for the teams led by Shubman Gill was witnessed.

Argentina Seek to Retain FIFA World Cup Glory
Argentina will now have to play Spain in one of the biggest games ever in World football. The defending champions are looking to become only the third country in history to retain the FIFA World Cup title after Italy in 1934 and 1938, and Brazil in 1958 and 1962.
One step away from the final, Messi lauded Spain before acknowledging that it would be a tight race.
Messi said:
"Spain is a great team with outstanding players and a very distinctive style of play. They’re a team I know very well, with a football philosophy they’ve been following for many years. I know their players too."
He added:
"I’ve faced many of them, and I still follow them. Several of them play for Barcelona, a club I love and continue to follow. So it will be a special match because it’s a World Cup final, and naturally I expect it to be a very even game."
As football supporters await the mega final, a post on Instagram by the veteran Indian cricketer Dhoni from ten years ago has suddenly emerged as a build-up, adding yet another moment to the excitement of the biggest football fixture on the planet.
