Recently, discussions about COVID-19 have surged in India, particularly following reports from Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh that have led many to speculate about a potential resurgence of the pandemic.

Reports indicate a renewed fear surrounding the virus after two fatalities linked to COVID-19 and the identification of eight active cases in Andhra Pradesh. Notably, singer Jaan Kumar Sanu, a former contestant on *Bigg Boss*, has tested positive and is currently hospitalized.

While the majority of current infections in India are mild, health professionals urge the public to remain vigilant. There are questions about whether the current infections are related to China, especially considering that around 79,000 cases were reported there in June.

COVID-19 Cases in Andhra Pradesh

Before delving into the global context, it is essential to assess the situation within India. Reports from Andhra Pradesh reveal that those infected had received at least two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, with one individual having also received a booster dose.

Medical experts emphasize that vaccines significantly lower the risk of severe illness from the virus. Although vaccinated individuals can still contract COVID-19, their chances of developing serious complications are considerably reduced. Currently, there is no need for alarm regarding the virus.

Precautionary measures are advised for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems, particularly in crowded environments. Experts suggest that while COVID-19 has become endemic, the emergence of new variants remains a possibility, making surveillance and preventive strategies essential.

Globally, COVID-19 continues to be a significant topic. Recently, China has reported an uptick in positive cases. However, experts from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) assert that the outbreak remains at a manageable level, with no new variants detected that pose a higher risk than previous strains.

Data from the Chinese CDC indicates that from June 1 to June 30, approximately 79,000 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded across 31 provinces, with 130 patients in serious condition and one death linked to a pre-existing health issue.

Trends in COVID-19 Cases

Chang Zhaorui, a researcher at the Chinese CDC, noted that COVID-19 activity in China had remained low for over eight months until a slight increase in cases was observed in late May 2026. However, this rise did not escalate into a widespread outbreak.

Currently, the NB.1.8.1 variant is the dominant strain in circulation within China.
