Rodri’s future has once again become one of the most discussed topics of the summer, with new reports indicating that the Manchester City midfielder would be open to joining Real Madrid if the Spanish club decide to make an approach.

The Spain international has been linked with a potential return to La Liga in recent months. However, reports have frequently suggested that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez remains cautious about investing heavily in a player who has now turned 30.

Despite this hesitation, the internal debate at the Santiago Bernabeu continues. Senior figures within the club reportedly still view Rodri as the perfect addition to strengthen Jose Mourinho’s midfield, particularly following his exceptional performances during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to the latest update from journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon, as cited by Defensa Central, Rodri is said to be “very keen” on securing a move to the Spanish capital.

Before making a final decision, Real Madrid were keen to assess Rodri’s form and fitness after his recovery from a serious knee injury that disrupted part of his season. His impressive showings for Spain during the World Cup have largely addressed those concerns.

Throughout the tournament, Rodri delivered consistently high-level performances, demonstrating the calmness, defensive awareness, and passing precision that have long defined his reputation as one of the world’s elite midfielders.

Explaining his updated view, Alvarez de Mon stated, “Rodri is very keen to return to Spain and play for Real Madrid. The club wanted to evaluate his season with City and his World Cup campaign with Spain following his knee injury.”

He added, “Mourinho needs one of the best midfielders in the world, and Rodri fits that description. I initially had doubts because he’s 30 and had a complicated knee problem, which could lead to other muscular issues. But I’ve seen enough now to say he’s back to his best.”

Alvarez de Mon further noted, “He’s been playing at maximum intensity for nearly four weeks, and he’s getting better and better.”

While Rodri’s form at the World Cup has reignited discussions within Madrid, it does not necessarily signal that a transfer is imminent. Recent reports suggest that Florentino Perez is still reluctant to allocate major funds for a player entering the latter phase of his career, especially one who has recently overcome a major knee injury.

This cautious stance helps explain why Real Madrid have not yet accelerated negotiations despite Rodri’s standout performances. At the same time, Mourinho is understood to appreciate the combination of experience and technical quality in midfield, making Rodri an appealing option for the Portuguese manager.
