If Manchester United are to secure the signing of Crysencio Summerville, the next few hours could prove decisive.
Discussions have reportedly taken place at Old Trafford regarding the addition of a new left-sided winger.
There is growing concern that United could be left short in that position if Marcus Rashford departs, especially given that Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho have not been replaced in recent times.
Although several exciting wide players might attract the 20-time English champions, Summerville has surfaced as their prime target.
Initial reports suggested that United could acquire him for around £40 million, but it has since been revealed that his price may be even lower. West Ham United are understood to be ready to part ways with the Dutch winger for approximately £30 million.
His appealing price tag, technical excellence, Premier League experience, and standout performance at the World Cup should already have encouraged INEOS to finalise the deal.
However, reports indicate that any move for Summerville is contingent upon Rashford’s future being settled first.
As United continue to deliberate over Rashford’s situation, their pursuit of Summerville could be jeopardised, according to updates from Sky Sports Italy.
The Italian outlet reports that AS Roma have tabled an attractive offer to Summerville’s representatives. A final decision has yet to be made, though Aston Villa and Manchester United—two established Premier League sides—remain keen on securing his signature.
According to the report, clarity is expected within the next few hours regarding whether Summerville will choose a move to Rome or hold out for a Premier League destination. “The ball is now in the player’s court, and he will make his final assessment in the coming hours,” the outlet states.
It is believed that Summerville could reach a decision as early as Thursday, July 16, once he returns from Miami and meets with his agents to determine his next step.
United will be hoping the Dutchman opts against joining Roma and instead waits for their approach, as that could be their only realistic opportunity to sign him.
This is particularly relevant given that no substantial offers have yet been made for Rashford.
Now that the World Cup has concluded, United will be eager for developments in Rashford’s situation. Once his future becomes clearer, the club can make a final decision regarding Summerville, provided he has not already committed to Roma.
